Tora/Recon/Revelation/Pikes and heavy riders

A couple of weeks ago I bought a pair of RS Revelations U Turn and couldn't be happier with them. But I recently came across this chart which says the red coil that comes with as standard in forks listed above is rated up to a 72kg rider. I'm around 90kg and when I sit on the bike they rest at about 40% of the compression. I emailed TF Tuned for advice and they recommended the blue spring (72-82 kg).

Has anyone changed the spring in their forks? Was it worth it?
Will riding on that spring cause any damage to the fork?
Can anyone recommend where to buy replacement springs cheap?

In the end it comes down to what feels best for you. Usually I would say that 40% sag is too much. You may get better performance from a heavier spring. The only damage you will cause is if you repeatedly bottom it out.

Am I on everyone elses ignore list :?

This is my first time ever riding on a decent set of forks so I don't really know how they should feel.

I changed my spring as i could bottom them out easy and had 40% sag. Got the blue spring and they feel proper now. I'm no expert but thought same as you and read up on it. Cost £30 from TFtuned. Phone and ask them. I did that to and the guy reckoned i should experiment if i wasn't happy with red spring. He said it has a lot to do with type of riding

Thanks bob, sounds like a worthwhile investment. Was it much work to change? What type of riding do you do?

Easy to do. Came with instructions. Just basic tools needed.
My local track has a rocky downhill and i was bottoming out all the time. Now it feels right. When fork travel dialled in to 90mm their obviously stiffer still but at 135mm for downhill it's cool. I'm about 85kg

Just have to decide on which spring I need now. My weight fluctuates around 90 - 95kg so I think the red spring will suit me, but don't want to be stuck with a shock that's too hard. Do TF accept exchanges on slightly used springs?

Received and fitted the blue spring this morning and they feel much better even when just dropping off curbs.
  • Cool...

Are they easy to install? Reason I am asking is because according to RS - I am too heavy for the standard coil in my Pikes (am about 14 stone) so may need to change them...

But like the 'check if you're overweight for you height chart' that's never correct I shall reserve judgment for a couple of weeks rising them stock...

I just don't want to have to take this to LBS and spend more money than I need to...

    Cheers

If you order from TF tuned they will send instruction with it.
