edited August 2007 in MTB buying advice
hi all.
im upgrading my fork soon, as i currently run a RS Dart 1 on my GT Aggressor xc3. i plan to get a Tora, but could do with some help.
ive had lots of conflicting advice given to me recently over buying the Tora 302 U-Turn 85-130mm, regarding the affect on the handling due to the large amount of travel, so am considering the Tora 203 set at 100mm. this would ensure the frame geometry stays sound.

As my Tektro brakes are mechanical, i would like to buy some Avid Juicy 3's too.
However, as i am a paperboy, funds are limited!
so, basically, should i buy the Tora U-Turns and get loads of adjustability (yet gamble with the geometry), or play it safe with the 100mm, and have money left to put towards the Avids?
any advice would be great! thanks :D

Firstly, there is no such fork as the 203! Altering travel is fine if the frame is warrantied to take it - if so its a useful feature for fine tuning and feel. The brake upgrade may require new shifters.
  • i thought id got away with the '203' thing after id edited it! :D
yeah, ill go for the 302  U-Turn, as the aggressor xc1 comes with them, so i figure the frame can take it...
and also, the brake upgrade will need new shifters, but i can get them for £20 so its no problem really.

    thanks for your help.

I find the u turn feature very handy indeed. If i want the bike to be responsive and nippy i put it down to 85mm, if i want to blast down a hill i crank it upto 130mm, If i want to cruise along on a road i put it on 100mm. Its a great feature and allows you to tune your bike for every type of riding style, just make sure your frame can take 130mm travel forks.
