Hi forum people :)

on the way home from work Saturday I had some double bad luck :x

firstly, due to the beautiful sunshine at approx 6am I choose to go to work on my Daccordi 8) - big mistake, by the time came to go home it was pi$$ing down  shortly followed by my 2nd piece of bad luck  after approx 1 mile I heard a 'CLUNK' followed by a feeling that the chain had come off, quick look in between my legs  and chain is still running fine :?: so I start to pedal - NOTHING, I roll to a halt, dismount, squat down and inspect the 'drive chain' (Campag Chrous / centaur 10 spd) - ahh interesting !?! freewheel in both directions :? and all the time I am getting soaked :( :x

so people whats the problem ?

easy fix or what?

I was holding out until Crimbo for a new set of hand builts for her?

TIA
Regards

  • Sounds like you may need a new freehub.

http://www.parktool.com/repair/readhowto.asp?id=45 might help if it's just a case of freeing it up and applying some grease.

    Good luck!

Yep, new free hub needed. This happens when free hub is v v old, or you ride the bike a lot in crap weather and dont clean/service it often enough. The pins get worn away with salt and road grit. My free hub went last year, but luckily it was whilst I was cleaning the bike rather than riding it! A new one cost me a tenner at the LBS.

Thanks for that blonde, hopefully a new freehub will be all I need to see me through to a new set of wheels.

did you fit the freehub yourself, and was it campy or Shimano ?
