Can anyone recommend strong but lightweight rims for my Commencal Combi R? I dont want anything heavier than 2.2kg. I need to run a 2.1 Panaracer fire XC Pro tyre. Im looking along the lines of Sunrims SOS or some Mavic rims but if there is anything else anyone can recommend then any advice will be useful. I really need to replace the original DS2-XC wheel on the rear. I just need a rim but a whole wheel will be even better. Also, which hub will be best?

  • How about the Mavic XC717 rims? I have them on my Stumpjumper FSR and they have taken a fair amount of abuse,

  • Mavic XC717 on XT hubs from merlin cycles. Great value and last really well.

Mavic 717 'disc' on Hope II's. Lite and strong £199
  • I've just ordered a set from merlin. Mavic XM719s on Hope Pro II with DT Comp Black spokes... should be a winning combo for slightly heavier XC/AM. with an XT cassette the build came in at £276.00

I have XM317s on Hope XC on my Marin which are OK but wouldn't try anything too heavy on them but they are fine for their XC purpose.

I dont really have a budget cos i kno where i can get them really cheap. XM719s seem good, how heavy r they? (without tyres). i'm also looking to go tubless with Stans No tubes. 8)

If your going to run tubeless, then Mavic do the XM819 which is tubeless compatible.
