Congratulations to Nicole Cooke on winning her eighth national RR title in a row!

More here in the UK national press.

The result would suggest that the level of women's racing in the UK is on an upward curve?[/url]

Unless things change drastically or she suffers an injury I can see her not letting go of the jersey until she retires....

I think there's very little doubt that women's racing in the UK is on a very steep upward curve. It's not just Cooke and Pendleton at the top of the world in their disciplines - there are a good number of younger riders showing huge potential, and an ever increasing number of women riding for pro teams on the continent. GB got medals in several women's events at the recent European Junior and Under 23 championships and Jess Varnish went on to get a silver at the Junior Worlds in the sprint - and she's still only a first-year junior! The standard is rising ever higher and the numbers of young women getting involved and competing very seriously is increasing. Women's cycle racing in the UK has a very bright future indeed IMO.
