I want to do a European Sportive in 2008, would rally like to do something about 100 miles with some low gradiant climbs, prefereably in Italy or Spain.

Does anyone have any ideas or experience of these events ?

I've done the GF Felice Gimondi for the past two years and it offers everything you're after, i.e. it's 165 kms long and has 5 climbs that never go over 10%, and are mainly 5-7%.

It's a great event and starts and finishes in Bergamo which is a very nice place to visit. The airport, described by Ryanair as Milan, is just 6 kms from the centre of Bergamo so it's an easy one to fly to.

I've ridden a lot of Gran Fondos in Italy and, in my experience, this is one of the best.

They are tremendous fun to ride as you get large groups hammering along at speed.

You could try the Maratona, not easy, but not a ball buster. I you hate hills, try the Tour Lac of Leman which is supposed to be nice. I think they might have introduced a hillier option this year
