FSR XC Weight Issues?

I was pondering a 2007 bottom end FSR XC but noticed the weight seems to be quoted around 32lbs, even the higher up models still get quoted around 30lbs.
For an XC bike with short travel this seemed a bit excessive, I'm just wondering where the weight it coming from. The top end Pro for example it has an M4 frame, Rebas, Mavic X117 and LX/X9 bits, XT chainset where is this hefty weight coming from?
The longer travel, burlier looking Stumpy FSRs Comps with fairly similar specced bits (well ok slightly higher). Similar weight fork, same material, same tyres, similar weight brakes yet usually quoted as being 4 pounds lighter? Is all of the extra weight going on wheels and finishing kit or is the frame badly butted?

For a bike of this price, (XC FSR) the weight is below average. The overall weight is just a combination of many average parts. XC pro is only a little more in price, and both have heavy hubs and tyres.0

Yeah, the hubs/wheels I noticed. The tyres are the same as that on the Stumpy though apparently. The Pro is a good £500 more than the cheapest one, for £300 more you end up with the Stumpy Comp.
I'm starting to think the quoted weight of the Stumpy Comp I've seen is the off figure, given the Stumpy Pro is also supposed to be just over 26lbs.
Im just making sure the FSR XC frame isn't the hefty component, I want room to upgrade in the future and the 4" travel is more than adequate.0 -
My stumpy is a few pounds lighter than my 05 XC, I seriously cannot tell any difference whatsoever when riding, or carrying over gates for that matter.spammer0

Ah good to hear, just making sure Think I'll go that route, sold my 2001 Enduro recently and wanted to try something newer and more aimed at XC, somewhere local is selling the bottom end one with £150 off, they're getting it in on friday for me to try!0

I've seen a few, the new Stumpy for example which is looking mopre and more Enduro-esque. I'll go have a look, cheers
Edit: FSR XC's look about the same, better brakes on the bottom end but not enough to make me spend another £150 on it.0
