OK,
So im looking for a video camera to be used when out mtbing. It needs to be quite tough to put up with the knocks and also needs to be reasonably high quality to put up with youtubes downgrading quality.
Have you got any suggestions? around the £200 mark

  • To be honest your not going to be able to get a video camera that can handle 'Knocks'.

They have never been the most durable of products, i use a Canon XM2 (£1200) for professional stuff and i never take it out on my bike.

you'd be best looking on ebay, i have a 3CCD Panasonic NV-GS230 for general pissing about which is a really good quality budget camera.

found one on ebay for you

You'd also be wise to invest in a hard shell case for it, you can get these from most camera shops

Check out our lot at MTBUK, topo. We get our members a discount with Dogcamsports as we have a good relationship with them, might save you a few quid. They're the cameras the pros use for their stuff and they aren't expensive. Shot some footage of Les Arc with one of their units which can be accessed through the boards, so you can see what it can do. Might be what you're looking for! Be nice to see you over there.

some footage from llandegla last night here using it.
They stock complete camera kits from just their helmet camera to just the hard drive recorders, and our discount covers their complete stock

Get the ATC2000. Wireless and can plomp on yer head. Not great quality pic but more than passable. Also very robust. I've dropped mine a few times and people have slipped and fell while riding and the damn thing still works!

Around £100 (£75 if you get it from the states). You'll also need to get a 2 gb card.

Hi, ye well i was going for a camcorder with AV in but then realised i could be spending over 500 for the whole kit.
In the end i have settled for a sanyo xacti cg65 and a ATC 2000 not the best quality but it means it is portable and also for the headcam were likely to be fimling some big/sketchy stuff so dont want to take a camcroder on my back as well, i know you can get the hard drives it records to but theyre expensive.
  • Some people have gone for archos media players with video in for hard disk recording. YOu can get a camera designed specifically for it. It's better quality than an ATC2K and with the camera you can spend just over £200. Have a look on amazon.
