I watched Ultimate rock Climb last thinking "Oh yes reporter does rock climbing!!"
Having been Pres of the Climbing Club at Uni I was a bit cycnical at first.
I was pleasantly surprised and I found myself enjoying it
20 years ago I took my son, he was 15 yrs old, to climb Commando Ridge in Cornwall, so I thought Tim had chosen a good route for the first climb. They then went on to do Crackstone in Llanberis , I thought.... why not Cemetery Gates , Right Wall or Cenotaph Corner etc
I was very impressed with Julia's climb of the Old man of Storr
and its all on again this evening after...
the BBC's most ambitious OB live broadcast for 40 years, 8 climbers 2 rock faces in the Cairngorms. is it a repeat, why 17:25 to start?
Whatever, finally some good TV to watch.

It was a refreshingly up to date and entertaining view of a beginners route into rock climbing, excuse the hype "toughest climbs in britain" indeed!
Now if only the BBC could do something similar for the image of road cycling!I want to climb hills so badly;
and I climb hills so badly0 -

You're right of course - but it has to appeal to the wider audience and to those (like me) who think that Tryfan, Bristly Ridge or Crib Goch are mentally tough (and they are only walks/low grade scrambles).
Also the presenter - has to be able to complete it and I thought the girl done good on The Old Man of Storr.
As for road cycling - 100% agree on that!__________________
......heading for the box, but not too soon I hope!0 -
Scrubs up reasonably as well!He that buys land buys many stones.
He that buys flesh buys many bones.
He that buys eggs buys many shells,
But he that buys good beer buys nothing else.

I think a lot of people would have packed when that big boulder nearly took them out! Hard to say how 'girlie' she was acting on the first climb, frustrated tears etc.etc. given the length of time she took to complete it - but at least she managed it, though I suspect that the rope must have been fairly taught at times. And yes, she doesn't half scrub-up well and I'd be quite happy to spend a day winching her up a few routes.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

I've got to say the one that was on last night was a bit silly in places. I live in the area where the climax was filmed and it was clear that alot of the footage was cobbled together from various locations, and juding by the changes in weather, various days too. Fair enough, thats forgiveable but when she went kayaking on her own around Ramsey island and came out of her kayak she certainly wouldn't have managed to get back in on her own. I thought it was a bit irresponsible really as if that had happened for real she probably would have either died or had to have been rescued by the coastguard. As an amateur paddler she wouldn't have been able to get back in so to make it look as though her trip was a piece of cake probably sends out the wrong message to those thinking of hopping in a sea kayak and heading out over the ocean. I would have thought the RNLI or Coastguard might have had something to say about that. My housemate crews on the local lifeboat and has enough trouble with tourists being washed out to sea because they don't understand the dangers.0

julia,,,,,,my goodness,,,she is luverly!!!time is running out,use it wisely!0

which of our lovely maidens was the bravest. I think it's a close call, but kate humble gets my vote.Wild horses wouldn't get me down those caves. Crawling through the sump not knowing when you were going to resurface, not for me. And as for being the filling in that rock sandwhich well, WHAT A WOMAN.0

Saw a bit of the caving one, but it didnt capture me like the climbing did. I know its probably more dangerous (no one gets drowned whilst climbing) but just because its underground - it just isnt as pretty to watch.
I've downloaded the canoeing one off bbc iplayer - look forward to checking that out.0
