Nokon Cables

I've just got some Nokon cables, and I couldn't decide whether to other trying to do the continous liner thing, or whether just to make them up as normal cable lengths. I can't say I really had a problem with cables gunging up on my road bike anyway in the past.

I was really putting the cables on to be tarty, and save a bit of weight.

Also, I actually got an MTB set because it was ver cheap - I've got plenty of length, but I notice now, that the proper road ones have a different, more traditional cable run to go under the bar tape. Is this essential? What's it for?

Yes, the road set has a metal spiral outer for the section under the bars - i expect to save costs and time in putting them together. I use a continuous liner for the rear brake, but find I couldn't do the same for the rear gears - Campag Record because of the inner diameter of the in-line adjusters. Also stops the rear brake cable pinging the frame and damaging the paint.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Bear in mind that if one of the aims is saving weight then only use them for the brake cables not the gears - standard Shimano gear outer is lighter.
  • thanks, I spotted that. I am a bit sad when it comes to weight, so I was going to use them as the brake outer on my road bike.

I've also used some spare length to make the final outer gear for my cross bike, as it's always been a bit of a tight bend.

I have to say, no idea how it works yet, but it looks ACE!

yes, I am a bike nerd.
