You can download a free trial version. I would also try Tracklogs.
I tested them both and went for Tracklogs. Primarily because it supported courses which MM didn't - although I think (?) this may have been rectified.Rich0 -
I use memory map with a garmin geko and have never had any problems with it. Very easy to transfer routes and uplead tracks.
However, It isn't the cheapest software . If you want to do it for free you can use a website like www.bikely.com to plan a route and then download the gpx file. You then use GPS utility ( download from http://www.gpsu.co.uk/ for free) to upload the route to the gps unit.

I've used memory map and Tracklogs, much prefer Tracklogs. However.... Anquet have launched a download service - no need to wait for the software to be delivered.

I have Tracklogs. Don't use it for GPS but I really like it for reviewing existing routes and planning new ones.0

Another vote for Tracklogs. I use it with with the Garmin Edge and it works perfectly.
Though to be fair, I when I saw a demo of Memory Map a couple of months ago, it looks like it's moved on a lot in the last couple of years.0 -
I have no prior experience with tracklogs, but I have used memory map and I found it to be attrocious. I would have to be paid to use that software.
For my garmin, I just stick to mapmyride.com and upload the courses with Training Centre0 -
I've used memory map for a good while now with my Garmin Edge. I've found it to be a very good tool, not only for creating routes, but also for importing route data from the Edge. One of the problems I found with the Garmin is the inaccuracy of the elevation data and max speed data. Importing into Memory map gives a much more accurate result.0
