nope. not compatable."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
Parktools :?:SheldonBrown0 -
Nope.
The most universal feature making most levers and calipers incompatible with each other is that they are each designed with a specific (and usually individual) ratio between the master cylinder and slave cylinder size. Using the lever off of a brake that uses large cylinders with the caliper off one that uses small ones results in overly-instant braking, and no modulation. Doing it the other way round results in lots and lots of lever movement for not very much pad movement.
The other bit making them incompatible is the different fluids. Brakes, in general, either use mineral fluid (Shimano, Magura) or DOT 4 or 5.1 (Hope, Avid, Hayes). The seals for one wont work with the other.0 -
As luck would have it however Shimano happen to make some of the best discs out there so maybe its worth trying a pair of DCLs before buying them to see if you get on with them and if you like the discs.0

I have XT dcls with XT brakes.I find dcl totally intuitive once you've adapted.
XT brakes are very good too, every bit as good as Juicy 5s.2006 Giant XTC
2010 Giant Defy Advanced
2016 Boardman Pro 29er
2016 Pinnacle Lithium 4
2017 Canondale Supersix Evo0 -
i also run xt dcl's an love them, they work best with lo normal rear mechs and the shifting is slick and quiet. the calipers themselves offer excellent power. i run one set with 160mm rotors and the reign has 180mm front, which is even better.
well worth a look.0 -
yeah thanks guys, i didnt really think that they would be comptible. I will have a look at my bank acount and see about the whole XT set....would be nice
but i love the Juicys
