i have been doing downhill/freeride on my norco a-line in spain for 3 weeks and after the second week i had been out about 5 times and my hayes nines just completely stopped, i took them to a lbs and they said the pistons were broke so they put one hayes sole on for me and told me i needed 2 new brakes is this true or should i take it to another shop in england and see if i can get it fixed? or is it possible to do it myself?
thanks for all replies

  • i'd take them to another store for a second opinion. i know hayes brakes arent known for performance/reliability, but it would be difficult to actually break a piston.

what is/isnt it doing? what happens when you pull the lever?

when i pull the lever i could pull it back enough to click the back shifter and it did not stop the bike at all do you think it could be something else??
    and thanks for reply
  • Could be a leak, more than likely just needs bleeding. are there any signs of oil leaking from pistons/lever?

all that i bagged up was just the brake everything attached to the handlebar, that is what the lbs in spain give me.
  • Best bet is to take it to your lbs and see what they say. i would have said try bleeding it first before the people in spain changed it, but obviously its too late now.

So yeah, take it to your lbs and ask them to have a look at it. may be a quick and cheap fix there :)
