If a bike has a fork acceptance of max 140mm travel - would it be that detrimental to run a 150mm fork - I mean, my head tube ain't gonna pop off is it? :?

you should be OK, but you won't be able to claim on the warranty if it did go tits up on you.

Would make the steering slightly slower too.

Hi again! No the head tube shoudnt pop off. A m8 of mine has a kona shred originally wi' 100mm travel. he then got some old fox forks (vanilla 125R's) he had it set up like this for 'bout 3-4months & used it 4 jumping. it was fine until the seals in the fox forks broke!!

Using travel to judge how big a fork a frame can take is very rough method. A better way would be to look at the axle to crown lengths of the forks in question. I very much doubt that an extra 10mm will knock out the geometry or put too much extra stress on the head tube anyway.
