lock out, hydraulic damping confusion?

Just got my new GT Avalanche 1.0.
The fork is a 'SR' X 100 , 100mm speed lock out with pre load, hydraulic damping
Left leg is a pre load standard affair screw down to adjust sag. The right leg has a lockout feature which has a lockout switch that says open ,closed.
If i dont put it all the way open OR all the way closed ( set in the middle of the 2) the suspension seems less bouncy and more plush, and less like a pogo stick, ie in RST gila forks. Is this the hydraulic damping in between the open and closed 'speed lock feature'?
Thanks in advance

It is increasing the compression damping, reducing dive and bob. Many people use this feature of the fork.0
