Hi guys,
after snapping my XTR rear mech i have decided to replace it with the new XT M772 Shadow. It looks good and from what i can tell is a significant improvmant to the XT reach Mech (in respects to profile and chain stay improvements).
Just wondered what you guys thought?

Wait and buy an XTR Shadow? Actually, I am not sure when they are out, so you could be waiting a while.
I looked at this as I am about to collect a 2nd-hand bike that my brother bought me - with a trashed rear mech.
I can't see the benefit to me of a Shadow version, as this bike will be used to touring? Is the Shadow design to prevent it getting knocked when being 'gnarly'?0 -
I was looking at one of the ones we got in at work the other day. Very SRAM inspired.
Really, I can't see it being much better than any of the SRAM mechs - it's only real advantage over other Shimano mechs is the loss of the B-tension spring. Though it is very, very open, so easy to clean.
It's still big enough that if you hit it with something, it'll break.0 -
Not really gonna make much difference unless you are going through very high rocky sections. Will still be a very good mech, Just go with a normal XT mech as it will probably be cheaper and will work brilliantly anyway.___________________________________________________________

If you had XTR, I'd stick with that, if you can afford it. Why downgrade a very hard-used part of your bike if you don't have to?0
