Anyone tried going back to USE about broken carbon bottle cages? Went over some bumps in the road and the bottom tab of the cage on the down tube snapped (2nd time this happened).

Cant seem to get onto their website to mail them. :(

  • Anyone tried going back to USE about broken carbon bottle cages?

How old were they and which type (the original or the rather hideous looking custom)?

Back in June , I had a 3 year old original model snap when I put a bottle in. It had survived a lot of abuse so I was not too dismayed.

Use have been quick to deal with other breakages I have had (Alien seat clamp failures and Exposure light problems). Those were stil under warranty .

    Good luck

USE are only a small operation - one small industrial unit in West Sussex so they don't have legions of people waiting to take you call. Why don't you go back to your LBS or where you bought the cage, rather than trying to contact the company itself?
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Monty Dog - I am aware that USE are a small operation thanks and nowhere in my post have I said I tried to call them although if I did no matter how small they are I would expect there to be someone to take my call.

I tried to get onto their website to email them but it didn't seem to want to load.

I got them from Evans originally and more often than not its easier to deal with the manufacturer directly.

I don't think thats true - Its often easier to go to the seller. The seller is after all the one with whom you have a contract with and are responsible for selling a product 'fit for purpose' to you. In in the first instance, they should be the first port of call for any complaint - not the manufacturer or distributor.

Well seeing as I couldn't mail them I called them and someone picked up straight away, the same person told me that yep they knew there were a few issues with those cages and to just send them straight back to USE and they would send me replacements.

I said I hadn't yet looked for the receipt and she said it didn't matter.

    Sorted.

I don't think it would have been that easy had I gone all the way back to Evans (knowing what they can be like) in Holborn, after having spent the time finding the receipt.
  • Glad to hear you're being sorted. Could you post the website address, as Googling for "USE" is an exercise in futility.

I think that is because they go by the name "Ultimate Sporting Engineering" which gives the url: http://www.use1.com/ which works for me. Searching USE is as you say, futile, as there are a million other sites where that word appears before the USE one.

Why not get the plastic Tacx Tao cages. Probably lighter and a hell of a lot cheaper.

CF isnt a good use for a bottle cage.
