Hi,

I am looking to buy a Dual suspension mountain bike for use about 3 or 4 times a month on dirt tracks for around about £500 to £800, What is the best one on the market at the moment? (Ideally with disc brakes)

Thanks in advance

Dan

Trek Fuel EX 6 can be had for around £800, its normally an £1100 bike with good geometry and great components.

Do you really need a full suss bike?

At the price range you're looking at there are not many bikes that aren't compromised in some way, either poor spec's or weight issues.

There are a few worth looking at about £800, eg. GT I-Drive

But you will get a much better specced hardtail for the money with a better fork and hydraulic brakes, plus it will be significantly lighter, such as the Carrera Fury or a Specialized Rockhopper comp disc.

  • Scott Reflex-FX25 full suspension. Evans cycles £799.99 think this was originally £1500!!!
  • i would also recommend the gt i drive. heres the link;

GMARS70970 you are a lying or incredibly thick person.

That bike was never anywhere near that price.

try www.cyclehouse.net They did have a reflex fx35:

comes with v-brakes but they'll upgrade it to hydraulics for another £100. Very nice bike for the money.

But ideally you shud look at a hardtail for this money as you'll get a bettert bike for the money![/quote]

Thanks for all your coments, i may be being slightly ambitious looking for a full suspension bike @ £600.

Is it worth looking down the second hand route? eBay maybe?

Only if you know exactly what it is your looking at.

Problem you have is not being able to try before you part with your wedge.

Buy a good one, you get a good one, buy a bad one on Ebay, you could be stuck with a huge lemon, with no chance of doing anything about it. The problem with 2nd hand stuff is you are totally reliant on a) what you know and b) the honesty of the seller.

Might be worth a little look at a Decathlon store if you have one nearby, they do a full susser @ £300-ish that got rave reviews in one of the MB mags not too long ago.

If not, have a look at previous years models, they can be picked up for a steal at times.

I would honestly say, most of the £600 full bouncers out there will be compromised in some way, you'd get far more bike for your buck if you go the HT route.

I have the chance of getting a Specialized Enduro Comp FSR 2003 version for £450, it looks in good condition and has all the original Deore XT gearing on it. Is it worth it?

Its a risk. If you need to get new bearings and the shock serviced it will cost loads, and you'd have no warranty, and it might not even fit!

I can highly recommend the Halfords GT.

I got this price plus the 10% off with CornFlakes voucher, plus some beter pedals thrown in - bargain !!

The only thing I would say is the sizes are limited - the smallest is 18" which fits me fine at 5'9". My specialized bikes are 17" - the difference in size is minimal.
