Rock shox recon 351 U-Turn 2007

Marzocchi All mountain 3 2007

+ selection of manitou forks

I can get all of those cheaply through a friend, which would be best?

    Manitou suck, avoid!

    Recon's are pretty good.

What is the intended usage of the forks, that'll help decide which is best for the job.

I can definately say the Recons are excellent forks, I have loved mine, I would be keeping them but Im getting some Rebas instead as i want my marin to be more racey and XC orientated now that i have my full sus.

I have the 2007 Marzocchi Z1 RV - I would not recommend these. Mine make a clicking sound at the crowns and have a sticky feel when the (un)compress. I'll probably go back to a rock shox fork next time.
The Marzocchi 66 is supposed to be nice but make sure you go for an upgraded one as some had a common problem that was later fixed.

well i ride mostly single track + XC but am moving on to moderate freeride and hitting harder trails. My current forks arn't up to that sort of usage really + are quite tempremental (marzoccchi MZ Races)

so should i be looking for all rounders? (or all mountain) or specifics,

I've read great reviews on the recons...

I have Rockshox Tora 302 on my stock rockhopper disc '07 and they are fine for XC, singletrack (Afan & 7stanes) and also the odd bombhole etc. The only thing i've noticed is the spokes on the rear (hardtail) tend to take a hammering! I know in terms of cost that the Recon's are standard on the next rockhopper spec and Reba's being on the top spec 'hopper. If you stick with either of these then I think you will be fine.

  • I disagree with the comment Ref Manitou forks.I have a set of Manitou minute forks and they are top notch .Ive had no dramas with them at all.
Riding around Osnabruck on my German MTB that nobody has ever heard of 2DANGER EDR full suss ,manitou minute, manitou swinger,Truvative bits and bobs with XT running gear.oh and Mavic rims

Go for the rock shox's I got a set of revalations (next up from recon i think?) . Excellant fork eats bumps for tea in my opion ideal for the type of riding I do. Which is mainly XC with a Technical singletrack etc and spot of lite freeriding small drops and ladders etc. My brother has Rebers on his bike which is a XC race bike and there really good to.

If you are really going to hand out abuse look at some Pikes, but they may have to much travel for your frame and may invalidate your frame warrenty. As most companys specify what amount of fork travel there frames will take.

Thats my 2pence on the matter.

i have a set of rebas, revelations and pikes so will obviously reccommend the rock shox forks to you as they are outstanding in general.

ive had both manitou and marzocchi forks but still prefer RS forks, they tend to offer the most features for the money.

The Recons. Same damping circuit as the more expensive Rockshox forks plus the U-turn is going to be essential for the Hardrock. 130mm travel will knock back the headangle, could make it handle like a sack of potatoes on wheels. Being able to keep it at 100-115mm will give you the best compromise.

I got some tora 318 u-turns on my hardrock and to be honest, I think they are a great fork for a second bike. had a little clunk which i solved by putting some inner tube round the spring.

    Cheers for the advice,

From the majority vote, and from research i have done, i think i shall go for the Rockshox Recons as i believe from what people have said, they would best suite my bike.

    Thanks Again.
