Right, since i have been riding more trails recently, i realise that im sick of pushing up the uphills, and need to add a granny ring to my setup, and have a dual chainring and bash instead of a single with MRP. I have been riding single for 5 years now, and i have always had to push, but these days, my mates all have granny rings, and shoot off up the hills, and i cant keep up.

My question is, i have a RF DH ring, would i be able to add a granny ring, without buying another middle ring, and also, can i use sram x-9 shifters with a shimano front mech? This is only as i much prefer the action of the sram shifters to shimano, and i want a matching set.

Cant help you with granny ring but I know you can run SRAM with shimano front mechs - as long as your rear mech and shifters are SRAM

You should be able to use one but you might find the shifting a little odd because the DH ring wont have shifting ramps etc, the good news however is that deore steel rings last forever and are about a fiver each, so it wont cost you the earth. You haven't mentioned your cranks, but as long as they have the bolt holes you should be able to put the extra ring on.

Yeah, i have diablous cranks so i'll be going for a matching bash. The cranks definately have the granny ring holes on them, so there is no problem there.

I was thinking the same as you ride_whenever about the lack of shifting bits on th e DH ring. Whats even better, is that i shouldnt need a new chain or mech either, as i had a chat with the dude at the bike shop near me when i picked up my new giro xen. I was thinking i may have to, as i am currently running sram X-9 Super short mech on the back, with as short a chain as possable.

so really, all i'll need is a new set of rings, bash, shifter and mech. whoop
