Hi folks
any suggestions greatfully recieved,
I have a stumpy fsr comp & am not very impressed with the swiss dt rear rim, already had 3 broken spokes trued up twice & rebuilt with stainless steel spokes all since march 07 & to add insult to injury had an incident at mabie black resulting in me doing a coco the clown impersonation with my 50p shaped rear rim, to say i am losing confidence with this rim is true
I still have 9 year old mavicd521 dh rims on my trek 930 which have been totally bombproof & when I have taken them in to be trued they have always been spot on & needed nothing done, unfortunately the 521s have been discontinued & I really am not up on rims these days
my problem is that the stumpy is fast & light & I am not sure if there are good x/country rims, or should I go for a bombproof big hitter which will be heavier.
I am going for a hope pro 2 hub & any help with choice of rims I would be most grateful
cheers

I'd go with the Pro II with either a DT EX5.1 or a Mavic XM719. Both are pretty tough and lightweight. Perfect AM rims.

DT are usually very good, sounds like it ws a poor build, or shouldnt have been rebuilt at all. 719 medium weight all rounder, 721 similar to the old 521.

I use 719 on pro II and have started doing small jumps in some local woods, as well as some moderate drops, they've taken it all in their stride. I bought them from merlin, and I've now had two sets of wheels from them and they have all been fantastic and really strong.

Been running a set of XM719's on my xc bike for around 18months, given them a good hammering and they are still running straight and true.

:) Thanks very much for all your info, I think mavic xm719 seems to be my fav choice as
1/ never had a days trouble with my dt521s
2/ I just dont seem to have confidence in the dt rims after the probs i have had, they are probably good rims & I may have been unlucky with mine, but I think it is the mavics for me
    :D
    thanks again guys

Make sure you get the wheel built by a good wheel builder, it makes a hell of a lot of difference to the strength of the wheel.
