Hydraulic brake cable rubbing frame
Wait for me
Posts: 7
Whilst cleaning my new bike (FSR XC) I noticed the rear brake cable is rubbing the frame just in front of the cable tie nearest the headset. After only a couple of hours riding it has already taken the paint off. What can I do to stop this getting any worse? I'm not being fussy about the paintwork but am concerned that this is surprisingly fast wear!

Hi,
I have the same bike, and you'll find several other wear points: On the top tube where the rear brake hose passes by the rear suspension mount is a particularly bad one.
The only thing you can do is use frame protectors available from any bike shop, or helicopter tape, I've seen this for sale on ebay.
However just when you think you have protected all possible contact points, when you next clean your bike you'll inevitabley find more
I've come to terms with it, and look at them as proof I'm using the bike to its full!

Thanks Tagm. How are you getting on with your bike? I've only taken mine out twice since I got it. It's my first full sus, so nothing to compare it with.

Hi again,
I've had mine since May and used it alot!
Mainly Cannock FTD and Sutton Park, but also been to Betws Y Coed and Coed Y Brennin. I've been with people on far more expensive machines and managed to keep up no problem, and with less things breaking!!
I changed the brakes after a couple of rides as they were very dissapointing(Hayes Sole) Now running with Hayes Nines which have awesome stopping power, at the expense of modulation it must be said, but a great improvement over the Soles.
Also changing the Rear shock, as I find the X-Fusion one fitted a little bouncy, especiallly noticable in Wales, and some sections of the Dog. A new Fox R is on its way
Overall I am pleased with the bike. Just trying to avoid looking at the Sales of the '07 bikes which have just started, cause I know the range has now been reduced in price
I don't plan to upgrade anything else(Unless I break something!) As i am happy with the performandce of the rest of the componentry. I may invest in a new ride however this time next year, as my enthusiasm for the sport is now off the scale, thanks in no small part to the quality of the bike :!: :PYesterday is History, Tomorrow is a Mystery, Today is a Gift. Good to hear you're enjoying the bike. I'll have to avoid the sale price tags when I take mine in for it's free check up in a couple of weeks! Anyway - got a good deal on 18 months interest free a couple of weeks ago when I bought it. Probably wouldn't get that deal on sale price.
