Spacers on gear cable

Just picked up my new Specialized FSR XC and noticed 3 plastic rings on the rear derailleur cable. I assume these should be evenly spaced along the length of the exposed cable to stop it hitting the frame of the bike - can someone confirm this please ( :? sorry for my first post on this forum being such a stupid question!) Thanks Supersonic. When I got the bike they were all bunched together so I will seperate them and space them along the cable.
