Haggling in Halfords

Hello everyone, another new member here.
A local Halfords has a Kona Fire Mountain reduced from £450 to £340. As it's a 2006 model, and the Kona 2006 RRP is £400 anyway, I don't think it's much of a reduction.

As I'm a bit crap at trying to get my own way with people, has anyone got any haggling tactics that would help me get the price down to around £300?

I'm not tight fisted or greedy, but it annoys me when I see Halfords charging above the manufacturers RRP to start with, and then making out like they're making a great bargain on a bike which could be nearly 2 years old!

TIA
Garry

If they dont want to sell it to you at that price they wont, not much you can do. halfords pricing is a bit odd, maybe ask for some free goodies or a price match? TBH I think its a very poor bike for the money anyway lol.

You could try asking if they'll accept a Kellogs voucher, they're on the back of corn flakes etc...and give you a 10% discount on bikes and accessories at Halfords. They may not accept them as the bikes already in the sale, but nothing ventured etc....

    Thanks for the replies.
I thought Kona made decent bikes, but I'm still riding around on a Raleigh Nitro, so what do I know?
I only went in there looking for a Carrera TDF SE road bike, but they only had one in medium size and not large. The guy said his computer only shows stock for that branch, so I drove round loads of Halfords in Brum with no luck.
I'll look into the Kellogs voucher when I'm in Sainsburys next time, (next door to another Halfords!) Hmmmm... coco pops.

Kona have good frames, but blighted by the componentry. Halfords will do a store search if you ask them.

I'll ask them on the way home then, and if no luck i might have a try at negotiating the Kona. It can't have components any worse than my plastic brake levers! And I bet you can adjust the saddle without messing up the back brakes!

    Cheers

Ah, the raleigh nitro, a true 'classic'! Yep, its better than that lol, but for the same money even better to be had.

I know, but there's too many to choose from these days. Much simpler when I were a lad; you either had a 5 speed racer or a Raleigh Chopper, or the Halfords girls one that your big sister didn't use anymore. ( I swapped it for a Chopper)

    Ahhh those were the days,

That was the measure of a true cyclist.....

How many times your gonads and the gear shifter on your chopper had come into contact.

How i miss those simple things, which bought pain tinged with agony to my life.
