Hi all,
I'm off to Belgium in September, aiming for the Ghent area and below and hoping to take in some of the Classics routes.
Can anyone recomend some decent accomodation for three cyclists plus bikes? especially somewhere with good food and drink nearby......

What a pity, I couldn't tell you this before :
Every year, 'Vrienden op de Fiets' (Friends on the Bike) publishes a booklet with thousands of adresses where you can stay for a moderate price : 17 euro per peron per night. In Holland, there are about 3150 families that will welcome you. In Belgium, there are about 200 places and in the Ghent area some 7 or 8. There are even adresses in France and Germany, and a few in Switzerland, Italy, United Kingdom, Luxembourg, ...
But it's only intended for cyclists and you have to become member of the Dutch organisation 'Vrienden op de Fiets', in order to receive all the information.
Have a look at www.vriendenopdefiets.nl > English version.

I followed this link also looking for ideas on where to stay, and have just returned from a fantastic holiday in Flanders staying there. The whole area is very cycle friendly with lots of signposted picturesque routes, (if challenging - the pave is very jarring) and the hostel and hosts were lovely and helpful. I can't recommend them or the region enough. Was also lucky enough to be in Brussels on Car-Free Sunday. That was an experience to treasure too.

You can get a booklet from the Flanders Tourist Offices in Belgium listing over 240 B&Bs, hotels, youth hostels and camping sites in Flanders which fulfil criteria allowing them be considered 'cyclist friendly'. To reach this status they have to meet 7 basic requirements and at least 2 of a further 10 requirements. The booklet also has maps in it, showing the locations of the listed accommodation, as well as general tourist and cycling info, and costs € 4.90.
The only drawback (for some) is that it is in German.
This is because, although sold by the Flanders Tourist Office as well as by the European Cyclists' Federation (to which the CTC belongs) and the German Cyclists' Club (ADFC), the legwork for and preparation of the booklet, as well as its publishing, was done by the ADFC, and no other body has as yet been prepared to translate it. It first appeared last April.0 -
one my most enjoyable cycling experiences was Flanders last spring, just before De Ronde.......stayed near Oudenaarde and did a load of the De Ronde route, cycling is just huge over there....what a place, can't wait to get back over0
