Like in the article in last months C+ I converted an old steel Marin into a tourer/hack. I have put higher bars on to give a more relaxed riding position but it is still not high enough.
Although old it has an ahead set so how can I lift the existing stem without new forks?

You could get one of these:smzmhu2.jpg
    a Heads-Up Stem Extender.

Alternatively you could buy a stem with a steeper angle (you can get them with 20 or 25 degree rise) or an adjustable stem, or a combination of both stem extender and higher rise stem.

    I'd change the stem.
