Easton Ascent II Wheelset

So there I was this morning, just ready to leave for work when my tube blew with that familiar but never ready-for gunshot crack of a noise. Bugger I thought - let's get on and change that tube...only to find that the explosion had blown off half the rim of my Mavic Open Pro!

So I'm forced (yippee) into a new wheelset and the plan is that the K Elites go on the workhorse and a new set go on the good bike.

Pretty much set on a pair of Easton Ascent II's - have had them in mind as my next set when money allowed - or when circumstance forced, as now!

Any naysayers out there? Anyone had such a bad time as to steer me away from them? Thanks all

Ben

A guy in the club I ride with uses them, very nice light wheel. I bought the newer EA90SLX wheelset, same money, bit heavier, with slightly deeper rim section on the rear.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MINE!!! I'm on my second set. I bought the first pair and used them for 18 months straight at least five days a week in all weathers. Lighweight, bullet proof, look good. The spokes are threaded at both ends so you may have trouble getting a replacement - never needed to myself tho'

Been using mine for a few months now. Didn't want Ksyriums as everyone has them and these are actually around 100g lighter than the ES and Wiggle have been doing them ridiculously cheap recently. The hubs are very smooth.

If you're reasonably light the Ascent II should be fine, otherwise consider the Tempest II with more spokes
  • Thanks everyone. Kind of confirmed what I thought - and I echo the sentiment about everyone having Ksyriums...though there is something about that single red spoke...! I'm 72kg (when the chocolate monster is under control) so I should be an OK weight for the Ascents, I reckon.

    Cheers

  • Wiggle were doing the cheap a few years ago then they went up in price by about £80. My guess is they are at the end of their stock and are selling the last ones left before they order some more. If I'm right you should get them soon before they go up again.
