What are my upgrade options?

I really want to replace the forks on my DB M05 but someone told me that i would have to replace the frame as the tube size wouldn't fit the majority of decent suspension forks? Is this the case?

Looks like the mo5 runs a threaded fork with 1inch diamter, the majority now are 1+1/8th inch, unthreaded. You will struggle to find a decent fork unless you get a one off like a Pace or Marzocchi, and will probably have to change headset and stem too. Not worth I am afraid, better put towards a new bike.0

Thanks for the advice! I'll just save abit more and get my new frame. Want to go for a custom build you see...0

Be aware that many of your old parts may not fit a new frame.0

cheers good point! The only parts I was going to keep were the saddle & seat post, wheels, rear brake, front disc and mudguards ect. I was going to get a new frame with new headset, stem, complete drivetrain and forks... does that sound like it would work? Just don't want to go and buy a complete new bike after only getting thi sone and i already have upgraded the gear shifters, brakes and tyres etc.
Going to get ChainReaction Cycles over here in NI to build it for me!0 -
You would need a new rear wheel, as its a 7spd wheel - 8spd cassette will not fit on it.0

I am getting a new set of wheels but didn't want to do it immediately until i have more cash. I'm upgrading the complete drive train to 9 speed. I didn't realise that the rear wheels were like that - i thought it was just a matter of changing the cassette?0

8 and 9 speed use the same width free hub body, 7 is narrower. Plus yours might even be a screw on freewheel, and the hub width 130mm which is too narrow for the 135mm on 8 and 9 spd.0
