Schwalbe Marathon Plus or Big Apple or other

Hi Guys,

Just kitted out my older rigid MTB with mudguards, panniers etc for commuting but I'm ussing 26 x 1.25 tyres at the moment, which is fine but not particularly comfy.

I'm after some new tyres that will fit under some SKS Bluemels and I think I'm going to go for either the Marathon Plus or Big Apples.

Has anyone any experience with either or better yet a suggestion which could be superior to what I have come up with.

Thanks in advance everybody.

Martin

  • FWIW - had a lot of trouble with clearances for Big Apple tyres on my MTB commuter. Still using the tyres but had to ditch the full mudguards and go for clip ons.

marathon plus is excellent as it doesn't puncture, though a fairly heavy tyre (compared to fast folding ones like Stelvio Plus (or Gatorskins)). i'd get the marathon plus over anything else for commuting until you don't have a weight weenie bike.

an alternative is Conti's Top Contact but I have no experience with that.

Done 1200 miles commuting to central London on Schwalbe Marathon Supremes without a hint of a puncture. Super light and folding.
