Rapid Fire Plus & Rapid Fire...

Is there any difference between the pair or have Shimano just added the 'plus' on the end to confuse simpletons like me?
Reason I'm asking is I've just got a GT IT-1 and will be looking at swapping over to trigger shifter some time in the future. Now I know you can directly swap to a Shimano Alfine trigger shifter with no problems, this is a Rapid Fire Plus system. However it does look a bit on the bulky side where as a rapid fire XT isn't.
Anyone throw me a bone here? If not anyone know any contact details for Shimano (or someone in the know)?
Cheers.

There is a slight differance betwenn the two, rapid fire plus gives you the option to either change down with your index finger and thumb now. The front trigger now has a two way action to change down gears, pull it back with your finger (as rapid fire originals) or push it with your thumb to change down, i normally ride with my index fingers covering the brake levers, now i dont have to move them to change gear. Nice

Basicallly they have both the normal Shimano way and now the SRAM way of shifting. very handy for some ppl as i find shimano shifters alot smoother than SRAMS___________________________________________________________
