Rattling valves

My bike seemed to be rattling at the front end last night. I think the most likely cause is that I was a bit macho with the pump and pumped the front tyre up to 120 psi, and perhaps this has caused the valve for the inner tube to rattle. Does anyone have any good fixes for this? I was thinking of a bit of bathroom sealant, but was worried about a reaction with the rubber in the tube.

Also, why doesn't the valve have a screw-on ring like a lot do? Are they trying to save money, or weight, or is it because of the varying profile of rims these days?

Thanks

Edward

yep - tape or the valve lock-nut that comes with the inner-tube.

Some tubes do have smooth valve stems and I try and avoid them. I need the long-stem tubes and always seek out the threaded variety. There is probably a tiny weight penalty involved but then that's only of importance to weight-weenies who hanker after Zero Gravity brakes etc.

I'd steer clear of using sealant, it is probably too flexible and may ultimately get spun out anyway.

What do I ride? Now that's an Enigma!
