Hello every one!
I'm a beginer at Mountain biking and i'm looking at setting myself up with a new bike. I have only got a budget of around 300-350 pounds and was wondering what was the best bike for my money? Should i look at secound hand? I have seen a Saracen Mantra 2 that is in my budget, Any good.
I'm living in switzerland so will use it in some ruff terain and have found a hardtail a lot easier for the long up hills.
Any other top tip on where i can get the rest of the kit for a good pice would be welcome.

Hi,
Have you read any of the other threads on this price, or put the bike name into the search feature? I'd buy new, as you get a warranty and get to try the bike out. Mantra is a bit too heavy, take a look at the Gt Avalanche series and Mongoose Tyax.0 -
2007 Giant Terrago Disc for £349

Might be worth a look0 -

i dunno about the avalanche but the agressor's frame looks similar and of same build quality soi would go for avalanchehttp://www.justgiving.com/bos2010 Fundraising for Sands, the Stillbirth and neonatal death charity

Get a Hardrock sport- amazing value for moneys. If you buy 06's you may even get disks for that price.0

Hardrock sports are bloody awful imho lol. Heavy, undamped forks, low spec... avalanche 2.0 gets hydro discs and a damped fork for the same price!0
-
avoid the saracen and go for something like a gt avalanche or aggressor0

Wait a little longer as the sales are nearly here, then you can maximise your budget0

Has any one got any news on the 2008 GT Avalanche 2.0? I might have missed the 2007 version at my LBS and would prefer to use them than somewhere like Evans etc.0

Its pretty much the same as the 2007 version, but with a Shimano crank.

I had a £300-£350 budget.
Started considering the, Hardrock HYD

Fancied the brakes and the name.
Was recommended this by many internet folks, the Tyax Elite

Fancied the forks, and all the reviews.
Considered this, as I could try it out in person.

Nice bike and a nice price, I was tempted.
Would have liked to have tried this, the Rockrider 6.3

Didn't see the reviews till after my order was placed for............
The Mongoose Tyax Elite. And I'm liking it a lot, not that I've used it much yet but I think I made a good choice, as recommended by peeps on this here forum too. And £252 leaves a lot of pennies for extras, cages, bottles, helmet, gloves, pump etc.
And the understated grey I think is pretty smart.0 -
if your planning to go to halfords to try out the Vulcan, try the Aggressor xc3 as well. i have one, and think its great. plus, its on sale at the moment too.
