help me, i recently declared war on a seat tube. took me about three days to remove and in the process the collar around the seat post got a little banged up. some of the metal has split and it looks like a new collar is needed to be welded on. i live in north london (barnet). do you have any suggestions where to go? what to do ? i've tried a few bike shops and they are all a little vague as to where to go.

This could be terminal. Whats the frame made of? You need to take it to a frame builder.
  • hello there,
the frame is made of steel tange. its possible it will hold if i continue using the bike but i have the seat quite high up which puts quite a bit of strain on the tube. i took it to my local frame builder in north london but i think he gets frames made for him and the shop name goes onto the frame. they couldn't help

Steel is somewhat easier to repair than alu, but i wouldnt hold out too much hop, its a highly stressed area.

Contact Argos Cycles in Bristol. They should be able to tell you whether it's a lost cause or not.
Then you could send it to them, or use a local fabricator/welder to fix it quickly.
I'd advise using Argos though, they are the mutts.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  • thanks for your help. someone i spoke to suggested argos. they sound a bit special
