i have a some manitou splice comps (05) and they seem really stiff. they only ever move when i push down on them or do a jump, they do not move over unless they come into contact with something big.

is there anyway i can adjust themor make them softer? new springs? i noticed there are allen key holes on the bottom... but i dont dare touch them incase something goes wrong.

  • This could be a manner of things. Try putting somthing like muc off bike spray, gt85 on the upper stanction to clear the dirt from the seals and also lube the seals. If this does not work there is absolutley nothing in splice comps. If you undo the allen key bolts at the bottom the uppers will just slide all the way out try greasing the lowers all the way down to free them up. Obviously still if this does not work look at seding them to be fully serviced and while they do it ask them to reccomend the right spring rate.
the only was to push your limits is to overstep then now and then
  • i might try oiling them later. will wd40 be alright?

i noticed there is a plastic bolt screw top thing on the top of the right crown. any ideas as what this does? the left hand side has rebound...

No, WD40 will not be alright, neither will gt85, they will work for a short period of time but will make it worse in the long run, a service from a reputable bike shop shoule be 20-40quid.

You need to get them serviced to replace the lube in the foam rings under the wiper seals, and replace the PrepM grease with Makt, Stendec or Pace versions to get them silky smooth. Even if you do that though, they still flex really badly, and I'd invest in a better fork.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  • they are pretty rubbish thinkig about...

i dont know whether to upgrade or buy a new bike.
