Specialized Sirrus Elite. Give it a try. Deffo a good buy in my opinion.

It wouldn't do any harm to look at the Specialized Sirrus range, either the Standard or Elite.
Pretty similar to the equivalent Genesis, but I found the sizing / position suited me better.
YMMV - Rufus.0 -
I really like my 2005 Genesis 02. It's been a really good all year round daily commuting bike. Fast and responsive. I've upgraded the wheels after two years to Mavic Open Pros - much lighter than the original Shimanos (which were fine, but the rims had worn out after two years).
With that last thought, the idea of one of the Boardman hybrids with disc brakes is worth thinking about - I'm assuming that'll give you longer wheel life."Tyres down on your bicycle, your nose feels like an icicle"0 -

Yeah, I guess it depends on who you talk to. The lovely girl at the checkout counter gave me 10% off even though the Boardmans were explicitly excluded from the promotion
Sometimes their lack of attention works in your favour..but mostly not!

Another vote for Sirrus Elite, put 6000 plus miles on it mostly with quite heavy panniers attached, not sure I like the new curvy top tube on latest version but its a damn good bike nevertheless. Looks good with full mud guards on it too, essential in UK. Liked the Genesis but was warned it wouldn't suit panniers and heavyish loads and found sirrus had more reassuring handling.0

I had a sirrus elite and loved it, only sold it because it wasn't getting enough use with my other two bikes. I wish I hadn't now.0

I've got a Genesis Day 00 and I've been very happy with it. It's fast for a hybrid but also quite practical for commuting with a pannier rack added. Copes pretty well with the rigours of commuting in London - I definitely recommend it.
You really need to try out a few models to see if they're suitable for you - after trying a few I knew the Genesis was the right one for me.0 -
Awe...absolutely love this bike! I used to have a heavy old manbeast mountain bike which was a struggle to get any forward momentum up even when going down hill BUT the boardman pro hybrid absolutely rocks!
Nice and light and nice juicy disc breaks and all that.
Just a pity its sold through hellfords as that seems to detract a lot from the bike.

Just bought a Marin Fairfax. Wanted to spend about £600, but this was going for £450, which left cash for odds and sods. Its 7kg lighter than the tank I was riding. Lost a stone in a weekend The speed difference is noticable, but the hills haven't shrunk and still break my lungs. Nice bike though.0

I'm very happy with my Dawes Discovery 601 2007 model (thanks M&S insurance!). It's very quick and looks good too. RRP is £600 but is available at £480 online (via Google).0

Another vote for the Spesh Sirrus Elite.
I have one and really enjoy it. The Elite has slightly better mechs and armadillo tyres which for commuting were a big plus.FCN 100 -
I have the Kona Dr Dew 2006 - great bike done over 6000 miles on it at this stage and it is still going great.
I see Trek have some nice looking urban bikes such as the Trek Soho. Does anyone know much about them?0
