Hi,

I'm having fun getting into MTB on my GT Avalanche 2 at the moment, however, the trouser guard makes it look a bit tacky.

I'm assuming I can remove it with no ill-effects (other than maybe snagging my trousers on the chainring! ;-) ), but wanted to check out with someone who might know more than me. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Do you mean the bash ring protector?

You can take it off but first time you hit a big rock you will regret it.

Yeah, I guess that's the same part. It's a big plastic cover attached to the biggest chainring at the pedals. I've seen loads of bikes which don't have these fitted - I thought they were called trouser guards and unecessary..but it's probably a good idea to keep it on you think?

unless its a proper bashring it ll be useless if you hit a rock

if it looks flimsy and its on a (forgive me) cheaper bike it won't make any difference

Or go one step further and swap the outer ring for a proper bash guard :)
