Bike Shorts - layers?

Hi everyone.. couple of naive silly questions about shorts and cycling:
1. What should be worn under traditional (lycra type) cycling shorts?
2. A friend got me some baggy Kona MTB shorts recently which are really great, but they don't have any padding. Should I wear some standard padded cycling shorts underneath, or am I OK with my trusty heart-patterned boxers? ;-)
Cheers!

1. I think the roadies swear that you should be commando underneath lycra's.
2. Padded lycra's are a good idea, but if you feel comfy in boxers, why change?Cycle tracks will abound in Utopia. ~H.G. Wells

I tend to wear a padded lycra short under some baggies (with or without liners). I dont wear any undercackers if wearing this set up. On the commute to work I tend to wear boxers under a lined baggy short. Sometimes wearing boxers you do have to make sure everything is in its right place and the leg of the boxers hasn't rolled up.0
