I had been building a trail, albeit pretty naff one on the end of the beach-there's an overgrown meadow thing with a path running through it. Anyway, on my way home I saw a cop car drive past and I just had the feeling they were looking for me. I was right, they turned around. So I put down my Lidl's stainless steel shovel my dh bike and helmet and awaited my bollocking. I thought it was for digging on private land...not so. They end up frisking me for drugs because the "Informant"/ Old fogey thought I'd been digging in a stash, but the pile of mud was actually for smoothing the trail and jump building. They gave me a report of my stop but fortunately because I hadn't done anything that was wrong it was not a warning.<hr>
Do what you fear, you won\'t regret it.

Community police always try and tell us off. Just keep riding, there's nothing they can do about it. Even old bill, sat in his car can't catch you if you're on a bike, because you can go places they can't. Try the park or something.
I've been yelled at a number of times, some of my mates who've stopped have gotten warnings. I'm not a bad boy/rude boy or anything else like that. But there's no point getting into trouble if you don't need to.Community police have been on the look out for a vandal by the name of \'The Elusive Lout\'. Any information you could give would be gratefully received.0 -
riding no handed on the phone.. no fine or anything.. but a stern telling off.0

Some years ago I was stopped for riding the wrong way up a bus lane near my home by a copper. I told him that it was open to bicycles in both directions and invited him to walk some 30 feet to view the signpost for himself. He gave me a fixed penalty notice "for my cheek", obviously I refused to pay the fine. Having dealt with coppers before I took a polaroid of the signpost, which unsurprisingly was taken down shortly afterwards. And I obtained a copy of the trafic order from the town hall. When it came to court and I presented my evidence the magistrate was furious, he made the police pay costs and the copper responsible was sternly reprimanded. It was even in the local paper.0

I got stopped by some cops once, was only riding on a walkway.
I Thought they were going to lecture me but they were just hunting down cyclists to code their bikes after a load of thefts.Giant TCR advanced 2 (Summer/race)

HA HA i got a bollocking from a copper when i was using a electric wheelchair at the local skate park.0

Speeding - 72mph in a 50 zone - fined. (riding without due care and attention on an unroadworthy bike - fixed wheel track bike, only one brake)
Speeding - 47mph in a 30 zone - caution.
Riding in a pedestrianised area - writen warning (Mr D. Duck obviously gave a false name and address as he was stood next to a HGV that was driving down the middle of the area being completely ignored by the traffic warden).

72mph in a 50 on a bike? what?0

I got lectured for riding at 2am with no lights a few years ago - yeah I know I deserved it & was knocked off my bike by a car a couple of weeks later because the driver couldn't see me. Lesson learned!!0

i got a right bollocking from a police man on a bike, i mean i was only slipstreaming him!
The thing i cant get is they will hapily moan at us for bunny hopping something or popping a wheelie, however doesnt that just show we can control a bike?
some of the police riders are diabolical, they really r useless!
when i get shouted at 1 nxt time i will not stop and i will see if they can keep up with the old blur4xer off road!0 -

No copper in this story, just a grumpy old dude.
I was coming home from school on my bike, which is a flat 3 mile journey from one town to another.
Anyway, theres a roundabout at the entrance to my town. Its a busy one, because one turning goes to the motorway, meaning everyone who travels by motorway to work has to use the roundabout. (including some of the nearby towns).
Anyway, Im not very comfortable with the idea of smashing my face into a lorry, so instead of going round the roundabout (my turning is the one to the right of my entry point, so i would have to go all the way round the 'bout), i cross the road, mount the pavement, and go along into town.
If i could, i would get back onto the road here, but im on the wrong side of the road to do that easily with the traffic. So, i carry along the pavement, which is completely empty.
I see an old man walking along with his walking sticks, so i stop to respectfully let him go past. Anyway, he has a go at me!
I told him i realised that it was technically illegal, but that id rather not die, tyvm, but he didnt care about that and said the law was more important. So i went back on the road. And got hit by a bus.
No, i joke about the bus. But it was still pretty annoying!
Thought i'd share.0 -

Yes I always stop for the police, I'm not a criminal so why should I run?
I have been stopped 3 times on a bike, the first was for riding home along an unlit country road at night without lights, when I explained they had been stolen (which was true) he gave me and the bike a lift home.
The second time was a random stop and search, right in front of my house, by a policewoman who said there had been a lot of burglaries in the area. As I distracted her by pointing out that a bike with no luggage would be a dumb getaway vehicle I deftly palmed the large chunk of pot I was carrying into a pocket she had already checked.
The third copper was a toal moron, he stopped me for riding the wrong way up a wrong way street. I told him it was a cycle lane in both directions and if he walked up the street a few yards with me he could see the signpost for himself. He refused and issued me a fixed penalty notice. Annoyed by this I refused to pay, took a photo of the signpost and obtained a copy of the traffic order from the town hall to present to the magistrate and wrote to the local paper. The end result was some small embarassment for the local police force and a white line now clearly defining the cycle lane running against the flow of traffic, which makes sod all difference because it is a little used bus lane anyway and the cycle path is always filled with peds.0 -

FACT OF THE DAY:
Riding on the pavment is actualy NOT illegal, but you have to have good reason to do it. The main excusse to use is "I felt unsafe on this section of road officer, so was using the pavement, and keepong my speed low to be safe" This even works next to quite roads, say you just came off, or were clipped by a car etc, your a bit shaken up so just going slowly and sesibly on the pavment. They can't even give you a warning for it
However, this dosen't work if your being a twat and poping wheelies down the street.0 -
