it may be obvious to most but being new to biking it's not to me.
could someone please tell me why a certain item appears to be missing from todays bikes.
they were common when i was last on a bike as a kid. That being the spring link in the chain. Could'nt find one for love nor money in mine and therefore had no idea how to remove it.

chain rivet extractor. basically pushes the rivet out and then the chain will come apart!0

Thanks for that, i will buy the tool but why were spring links done away with,
i did'nt need a tool then.0 -
i spose they could have found to be weak and snapped easily! sram and shimano both make chains with the same sort of thing i think sram call theirs a powerlink0

Connex also makes a link that is compatible with a variety of 8, 9 and 10-speed chains.

The SRAM powerlink is so useful, I have them on both of my shimano chains and it really does help.___________________________________________________________
