Shimano Saint and LX compatibility

Quick question, can I run a two-ring shimano Saint chainset (with bash guard) with LX shifters and LX rear/front mechs

    Cheers Supersonic, it's for the now infamous Cro55er frame....

    I was aiming to build a 'burly' rig, not so much worried about weight (although the frame is extremely light as it happens)

    I have a pretty damn near new Shimano XT crank (used 5 times before being swapped for XTR) that I was planning on using.

    I could use it instead of buying the Saint but do you think it may be a little 'soft' for extreme use - another option was to purchase some Middleburn chain rings as we all know how soft the standard XT rings are...

    Thoughts welcome
