Is this a good xc bike for a beginner?

Looking at buying the following bike:
Giant XTC 4.5. Any good??? £500
Is it worth spending an extra £140 and going for the XTC 3.5??? The main differences appear to be Tora shocks instead of Dart and XT drivetrain instead of LX.
I really only want to spend £500 at the moment but if the above is going to make much difference I would consider stretching my budget.
Any advice is appreciated.

Tora forks are waaay better than the Darts, plus XT kit will be lighter and shifting should be better as well.
But it depends on whether you want to spend the extra or not0 -

go for the giant xtc 3.5 for extra £50 its a bargain for lx,xt kit and tora forks0
