Inner tube life

Hi
I have had an inner tube in my saddle bag for about a year now as I have avoided punctures! This is probably due to me not doing enough miles.
Anyway, do inner tubes have a "shelf life". I would hate to find one day when I need it, that the rubber has disintegrated or something, leaving me stranded.
I am off to Scotland with the bike next week and certainly do not want any probs away from home.
Cheers
Andy

As long as it has been kept in the dark, not very hot, and not been in contact with anything sharp, oily etc. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't last for years. Exposure to light is probably what gets them more than anything else.
I\'m sure I had one of those here somewhere
