Road shoes I can walk in.
I'm doing the Wild Wales Challenge again this year and after replacing the cleats I wore down last year I figured I'd invest in a pair of shoes i can actually walk in......on the off chance some of those nasty little hills get the better of me again.
At the moment I'm using an old pair of mtb shoes for my commuting but they're far from ideal and I really don't like the idea of carting them round some of North Wales lumpier roads for the best part of 100 miles.
Any ideas?

A new pair of mtb shoes perhaps? They will be easy to walk in, what with the recessed cleats and should be stiff enough to transfer your pedaling power.

You say you're using old MTB shoes, so maybe a modern pair of high end carbon soled MTB shoes will be OK?
Anyway, Nike used to do Walkable Road shoes, SPD compatible.

and, these ones can be used for recessed SPD cleats with the supplied adapter or normal SPD-L and Look cleats.

Shimano do a touring shoe which I've found OK, not worth the price and I switched back to a good pair of MTB shoes for a similar price.

You using mtb spds or road cleats? if the former I recently bought a pair Specialised BG Sport Mtn bike shoes for £54 from Wiggle. I've been impressed with them, they're nice and light, and OK to walk in, and comfortable to wear even on long rides.0
