anyone know how long before brake and gear cables need renewing and is it worth learning to replace them myself

  • Do it yourself - its dead easy and feels much more responsive when you do it. I'd recommend changing at least once a year - best every 6 months - and definitely after winter.
keep the cables well lubed too!

It's always worth learning to do it yourself, and cabling's one of the things that will need doing on a fairly regular basis.

It all depends on the conditions you ride in, but generally it's worth re-cabling about every 2000-2500 miles.
