Can anyone tell me how to use my Shimano flightdeck computer PROPERLY. I've not used it for some time (obviously) and forgot how the thing works. Need to know what mode I need to be in to get it to work properly, if at all!.
I've changed all the batteries and re-calibrated it - twice, but to no avail.

Any info would be appreciated.

  • Don't have one myself, but here are Shimano's instructions (PDF file, right-click (Windows) or Ctrl-click (Mac) to save file):

  • Not really much too it - there are 2 'banks' of functions...bank 'A' comprises clock, ride time, ride distance, odo and stop watch. Use the button on the right hood to scroll through the functions. To reset the trip distance/ride time press both buttons together. To start the 'auto time' function, press the left hood button while in ride time/distance mode. To start/stop the stop watch press the left hood button when in stop watch mode. To reset the stopwatch press both buttons in stop watch mode.

Bank 'B' comprises cadence, cadence in main and speed, max and average plus a lap counter. To swap beteween banks A and B, press and hold the right hood button for 5 secs. To increment the lap counter, press the left button. To reset the lap counter, press and hold both buttons in lap counter mode.

The only word of warning is that it's possible to accidentally reset your ride time/distance when all-over-the-hoods climbing! I tend to keep mine on cadence (main) and speed, and just flick through when I want to check anything else.

    Hope that helps.
  • Thanks for that info, I remember most of it now- but, the speed will not show up - what ever. Last It did this the computer came on by it's own and started working properly after 1 day of riding!. Maybe it's trying to tell me something - ride me or else!?.
  • Do any mates have a flightdeck? If so, try swapping the head unit from your bike onto theirs and see if you have lift off! If so that would indicate a problem with the sender unit...perhaps it's too far from the computer or the magnet not close enough to the sensor. If your head unit works on their bike then that would confirm the sender issue on your setup.

I notice that you've changed all the batteries - am I right in thinking that your flight deck is wireless?
  • Yeah wireless, and nearly homeless if this keeps going on!!, like i said, last time i used it after 1 day it started working on it's own!. The sensor is within the distance given but with it nearly right underneath the front brake it does seem that it might interfere with the signal (used to work with radio waves and stuff) and thinks this isn't the problem. I'm so pissed at this computer, i'm nearly scrapping it for my old and trusted VETTA , that when i turn it on - i go! nice and simple, but i would love this thing to work! - someday.
  • See if a friendly LBS that stocks them might let you try a new head, or try it on a different sender. I'm sure that someone oh here must live local to you and would be willing to try a few experiments to see what worked. Yorkshire any good?
  • Cheers for the info again, but have done all that. Today I have re-aligned the sensor and sat in the back garden spinning the front wheel around to see if anything would happen. I've even re-set the soddin thing again to see if i've woke it up etc but to no avail !.I think it maybe a sensor problem.
