Have been riding a Carerra Kraken now for 3 months , but have got back into mtb (now 43 - blimey that sounds old , but I dont feel it  )
I am probably going out 3-4 times a week or more now and doing much more XC than I thought I would be doing , and have decided its time for a proper full susser
I have narrowed it down to these two and wondered what peoples thoughts were ?
I will be doing mainly XC but would like to make trips out to the mountains and DH
Don't really want to have more than one bike , so looking for the best all round that feels like a hardtail on a climb
thanks

  • I asked the same question on the what mountain bike forum and the replies were an overwhelming Orange 5.

Orange bikes seem to hold their price with very little discounts available although Triton cycles are doing a deal on the standard 5 @ £1574. The Stumpjumpers are coming down in price with most of them available with about £200 off.

I went with neither and got myself a Trek Fuel EX 8 instead and couldnt be happier that i picked that over the spesh, if you look around you can probbaly find the Fuel EX 9 for the same price as the spesh and thats an even better bike than the EX 8

I wouldn't want to take either the Stumpy or the Fuel EX on a DH course. The 5 would be the better bike for such antics!

I'll see you at the end.

You'll see me on the floor.

    Somebody say Orange 5...

Superb all mountain bike, climbs well, goes like proverbial off a shovel downhill & eats singletrack for breakfast. Go try one, you may well love it as much as I do!

How about one of these. Converts to around £1350

Specs looks good and it would be more than capable of taking a DH beating.

O ther bikes worth looking at might be a Santa Cruz Heckler or a Commencal Meta 5 but it has to be said that Orage 5 in the pic looks pretty purposeful!

I must say for the £1,749.95 price of the Orange 5 S your really not getting much bike at all. You would have to go for the £2,199.95 priced version at minimum. The Highest Specced Canyon costs less and has much better components

You're paying for a top quality British built frame, yeah it does seem a lot of cash for the 5's', but it is worth every penny, the frame/shock alone is £1175.

The Orange has had top reviews for years, from mags & riders, can't say the same for the Canyon.

i dont think the frame and shock could make up for the lack of other quality components on a £1700 bike. Its true the Canyon is unheard of in the Uk but its German built so you can guarantee its well engineered and seems to have some excellent reviews even if they are in German.
