Looking for a long seatpost?

I know that product recommendations usually follow a question asking for advice but here is a 'heads up' about a great seatpost that I bought from the US recently (I really don't have anything to do with the company by the way!).

The supplier is Kent Eriksen cycles (Google will find their shopfront) and the product is a Sweetpost (v. American). Kent Eriksen was the founder of Moots and has since moved on to do his own thing.

Sweetposts come in 27.2mm only in both straight and setback format and in lengths up to 400mm (which I bought). You can choose the colour of the fittings.

The clamp arrangement is great, one bolt does it all and it is tightened from the side rather than below which takes the aggro and guesswork out of positioning your saddle.

I did 55 miles on my bike this morning and the post is far better than the Specialized Pave carbon fibre unit I used before.

The Sweetpost isn't cheap but with the dollar as weak as it is right now it isn't exactly expensive especially when you compare it to the cost of someothing equivalent in the UK - although I have never seen a better or simple design.

So there you have it, a totally unsolicited bona fide recommendation which I hope someone will find useful.

I just looked at the website - very nice post but $200!!! The post itself is similar to the 25.0 mm Ti posts Look used to make a few years ago. The clamp looks like an excellent idea but it seems to support the saddle rail over a very short length compared to conventional posts. Is that the case?

Yes, £100 seems like a lot but it stacks up well against other options of you want a 400mm post. USE don't do one and their clamp is a PITA. Thomson do but not in Ti.

The clamp itself is rock solid. The support isn't quite as long as on the post I used before but I wouldn't say it is less than on a USE alien for example. As the clamp is actually integral to the post (rather than being a bonded in element), I don't expect there to be any durability issues.

It is a more specialised piece of kit but it is a quality item with some unique features at a price I couldn't match (a Moots unit is £175!), so I thought I would try and raise general awareness.

I'm delighted with mine and having ummed and aahed for a while before buyng it I don't regret the decision.
