The Forest of Bowland is only just down the road, as are the Dales and Lakes. MBR published a good killer starting from Dunsop Bridge a couple of months or so back IIRC."With just a little luck
A little cold blue steel
I'll cut the night like a razor blade
Till I feel the way I wanna feel"

I believe there is stuff up Longridge Fell (aka Kemble), but I've never ridden there, or Nicky Nook over by Garstang or Rivington Fell to the south. I thnk it's a case of trying to hook-up with some locals, who'll be able to show you where to ride. You might want to check-out Bogtrotters, who do rides in and around the north-west.0

A6 to Milnthorpe, Arnside, Silverdale, Lancaster and back on the A6. If the A6 bit doesn't appeal it's only one stop on the train (to Lancaster) but much of A6 has a cycle lane. Excellent riding around Silverdale.
Trough of Bowland is an obvious choice - some good climbs.
Off road - not great, go to the Lake District or Yorkshire. A few rides around Dunsop Bridge but generally MTB access is suprisingly poor in the Trough of Bowland.'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0 -
