Edinburgh Airport Route

Hey All,

Just looking to start a commute to Edinburgh Airport from the city centre and was wondering if anyone knew any ways to get there as I don't fancy cycling along the A8 with motorists flying past me at 60mph. Google Maps, Walkit and Multipmap all give me the same A8 route even using 'avoid highways' and 'walking' options. Would any Edinburgh natives have some nice thoughts, suggestions or websites to try? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Google maps will always give a dodgy route. If you know where you start and finish, you can work out a route yourself. You can right click on the map and say "Start directions from here" and then you can add waypoints by right clicking at points on the map. Plan your route by adding a waypoint at every junction.

The most direct route isn't the best. If you work out a few routes on google you can try them out on different days, that's what I've done over the past few weeks. I've actually found the quickest route is 1mile longer that all the others and requires me to get off the bike numerous times.

Get your self a copy of the Spokes Edinburgh cycle map, either from Spokes directly or from your local bike shop.

There is a cycle path which runs from the Gyle out to the turn off for the airport along side the A8.

Thanks for the reply guys, i'll give the route a few kinks and see what happens, and that book is only £5 so that'll be worth a look too.
