Carbon fibre bars vs white hatchback

Hi Folks,

Yesterday evening on my way home from work I had a slight altercation with a dippy mare. She was coming in the opposite direction to me and decided to turn right into a side street. She reckoned she didn't see me...but I'm six feet tall and weigh in at sixteen stone...I'd be quite hard to miss! Anyway, I went into the side of her car quite hard, apparently did a complete somersault and landed hard on my shoulder.

Here's the crux of my question - as far as I can tell my handlebars (and fork for that matter) look to be ok, but should I replace them anyway? They're both made of carbon fibre and I'm just worried about any stress or cracks that I can't see...I'd hate for them to fail on me!

I'll be getting some prices and seeing how she wants to play - she can either pay for the bits herself, or we can go down the insurance route.

Any help or advice would be great.

Cheers,
Chris

  • Are you (you should be) in the CTC? You need lawyers to make them pay because they think all bikes cost £50. Otherwise, you'll get absolutely nothing.
  • Funnily enough I was thinking it was about time to join the CTC just the other day - I think is just the kick up the arse I needed to make me do it.

Get LBS to replace all that needs replacing, or if it's going to be too expensive for you to pay for up front, get a quotation. Tell them you hit a car and to put "repair after accident damage" or somesutch on receipt.

If you're OK, send bill to her insurance.

If you have been injured, contact an ambulance chaser.
